So sometime this week, presumably Thursday, President Obama, Officer Crowley, and Professor Gates will be sitting down for a beer at the White House.  How many “beer summit” jokes can we squeeze out of this one?  What kind of beer(s) will be drank?  Will a brewery be sponsoring this event?  Will the President go with a micro or a macro brew?  Will there be drinking games?  So many questions!!!

There are a million jokes that could be written on whether or not they’ll choose a Stout or Lager and whether or not they’ll discuss the “profile” of each beer as they drink it.  Since this is the land of democracy and choice, there should be a flight of beer covering the spectrum of beers.  This gives everyone the opportunity to broaden their horizons and exercise their palates a little. Hey!  If you’re looking for a good micro (I suggest Irish Death by Iron Horse Brewery) and a good macro (I suggest Pabst Blue Ribbon).

Just to play “devil’s advocate”… let’s just say that during the time of the “beer summit”, there is an event that needs the President’s attention and immediate action.  Is he going to need to take a breathalyzer before he can make any decisions on behalf of the country?  Is he going to need to blow a .08?  Or is the threshold lower when you’re the President?

Ok, politics aside.  Is the beer summit a good thing or not?  I think it is.  Without adding my beliefs on the Obama Administration, I think that inviting a couple of guys over to discuss some outstanding issues over a beer is a good thing.  Hell, it’s about as American as you can get.

Now just think…. If they invited the Pope, how fun would that be?  It would cover the time honored trifecta of what not to discuss; politics, religion while enjoying a beer.
