A Quick Stop For Gas & Andraes Kitchen – September 18 2012
There are many places that do hot dogs. There are even a few places that do a hot dog well. Andrae’s Kitchen is one place that takes hot dogs to a new level. I was out at Cooper’s Winery last weekend and was in luck because Andrae’s Kitchen was also out there.
Now if you’re not familiar with Andrae’s Kitchen, they are a restaurant / food truck from Walla Walla who just happened to be “in the neighborhood” because they were also serving what was sure to be awesome dinner at Cooper’s Winery.
Now, back to business. The AK-47 served by Andrae’s Kitchen is more than a hot dog, it’s nearly a complete meal. The dog itself is a Chicago Red Hot, wrapped in bacon, and then deep fried. What was really nice is that it wasn’t overly greasy, or overly cooked. It was honestly “just right”. It was served on a nice bun, but I honestly couldn’t tell you what kind it was. I never saw it. The AK-47 was covered with fries, Poutine, and sour cream.
Now, if you’re not sure what Poutine is or if you’ve never heard of it, it’s essentially a brown gravy made with brown gravy and cheese curd. Which is essentially gravy and cheese sauce if you wanted to keep things simple. Did you read that right? This is a bacon-wrapped, deep fried hot dog, covered in french fries, brown gravy, and cheese sauce. How could this not be a better dish?
So to wrap this up, if and when you ever get the opportunity to give Andrae’s Kitchen a try, you need to. If the hot dog doesn’t do it for you, surely any one of their menu items will.
