Bulgogi Banh Mi at Tap & Barrel – September 26, 2026

I wanted a quick date night close to home, so we ended up at Tap & Barrel in South Richland on a Saturday. Casual but a step above takeout, which was exactly the mood. We were hungry and curious about something a little outside our usual rotation.

What I Ordered

  • Appetizer: Fried cauliflower
  • Main entrée: Bulgogi banh mi sandwich
  • Side: Butternut squash soup

The Experience

Service was good. The dining room was busy without tipping into loud, which kept the energy up without making conversation a chore. Good spot for a low-key date night if you’re in South Richland and don’t want to drive far.

What Stood Out

The bulgogi was the clear highlight. Sweet, savory, with enough caramelization to give the meat some real depth. It sat on a toasted baguette that held its shape through the whole sandwich, giving a solid crunch against the tender beef. Pickled vegetables cut through the richness with a bright snap, and there was just enough heat to keep things interesting without burying everything else. I’d order it again on that alone.

The fried cauliflower arrived crisp and lightly seasoned, easy to share, with a tangy dipping sauce that worked well. The butternut squash soup was smooth and leaned a little sweet, which fit a cool September evening better than I expected. Honestly the soup was the weakest of the three, not bad, just the least memorable. The textures across all three dishes varied enough that the meal felt considered rather than random.

Notes and Pro Tips

  • The fried cauliflower splits easily between two people and doesn’t weigh you down before the main.
  • The sandwich is a full portion. Share the soup if you want room for dessert or a second entrée.
  • There are quieter corners with windows. Worth asking about when you check in on a weekend night.

Would I Get It Again?

Probably not on the next visit. The bulgogi banh mi is genuinely good and worth trying, but Tap & Barrel has enough variety on the menu that I’d rather work through more of it before doubling back.
