Carne Asada Tacos and Chicken Fajitas at Fuego Mexican Grill – August 14, 2026
My girlfriend and I wanted a low-key date night that didn’t require driving clear across town, so we ended up at Fuego Mexican Grill in Kennewick. It’s a spot we’d driven past plenty of times without ever stopping in, and after tonight I’m kicking myself for waiting this long. Kennewick has no shortage of Mexican food options, so it takes something worth talking about to earn a repeat visit, and this place cleared that bar without much effort.
What I Ordered
- Main: Carne asada tacos
- Main: Chicken fajitas
- Side: Chips and salsa
We went for two mains and split them down the middle, which turned out to be the right call — more on that below.
The Experience
The service was great from the minute we sat down. Our drinks and chips showed up fast, and our order got to the table without us waiting around checking the clock. The dining room has a family friendly feel to it — plenty of tables filled with kids and grandparents on a weeknight — but it’s still comfortable enough for a date night. Nobody rushed us out once the plates were cleared, either.
What Stood Out
- Carne asada tacos: The steak was well-seasoned and had a good char on the edges, tucked into warm corn tortillas with onion and cilantro. No fancy toppings, no gimmicks — just well-cooked beef that didn’t need much help from the salsa bar, though we used it anyway.
- Chicken fajitas: These came out sizzling on a hot skillet, loaded with peppers and onions, and the chicken stayed tender instead of drying out the way fajita meat sometimes does. Combined with warm tortillas, rice, and beans, it turned into a build-your-own situation that kept both of us busy and full by the end.
The chips and salsa held their own too — thin, crispy chips and a salsa with real heat to it, not the watered-down kind you get at a lot of Tri-Cities spots trying to play it safe for everyone. Portions on both mains were generous enough that we didn’t leave hungry, and there was enough left over between the two of us for a decent lunch the next day.
Would I get it again? Yes, absolutely. Fuego Mexican Grill has earned a spot in our regular Kennewick rotation. If you’re looking for solid Mexican food without a long wait, and you want a place that works whether you’re bringing the kids or just grabbing a low-key dinner with your other half, this is the place. We’ll be back for the fajitas alone.
