Spicy Salmon Roll and Pork Katsu Bento at Sushi Ya – July 20, 2026

I try to catch up with my bonus daughters as often as I can, and this time that meant lunch at Sushi Ya in Kennewick. There’s always a lot to catch up on, so we like to pick a spot where we can actually sit and talk without feeling rushed, and this one delivered on both fronts.

What I Ordered

  • Main: Spicy salmon roll
  • Main: Bento bowl with pork katsu
  • Side: Salad

The Experience

We showed up right in the middle of a busy lunch crowd, which tells you something about how this place gets treated by regulars. Every table around us was full and the kitchen still had a steady rhythm going. Even with the place packed, the service was great, and we never felt rushed or forgotten between courses. It’s the kind of busy that makes you trust a place more, not less.

What Stood Out

  • Spicy salmon roll: Fresh, with a real kick to it instead of a timid drizzle of sauce. The salmon itself was the star, not just a vehicle for the spicy mayo, which isn’t always a given with this roll around town. It’s the kind of roll that makes you glad you ordered an extra piece for the table.
  • Pork katsu bento: This is where the real value is. You get the katsu, rice, salad, and a few other little sides all in one box, and it’s a ton of food for the price. A pro tip here: if you’re eating with a group, the bento is the smart order because it basically doubles as a sampler plate on top of being a full meal. The katsu itself was crispy on the outside and juicy inside, and the whole bowl had enough variety that I never got bored halfway through.

Would I get it again? Most definitely. Between the spicy salmon roll and that bento box, Sushi Ya gave us a lunch that was both delicious and a genuinely good deal, on top of a good excuse to sit down with people I love. It’s easy to walk out of a sushi spot having spent a lot and not felt like it was worth it, and that just wasn’t the case here. If you’re in Kennewick and want sushi that doesn’t cut corners, or a bento box that actually fills you up without breaking the bank, put this on your list. It’s the kind of lunch spot that’s easy to come back to, whether it’s for a quick roll or the full bento experience.
